One of the clients I have been working with, LJ, had been asking me to write a tune called “Healed and Whole” for a while now. Today was finally the day it was written. I woke up and started writing lyrics based on a prayer I was speaking. It helped that LJ gave me a vision for this tune the last time we met to write, which was to write how church has helped me with my anxieties.
I was able to take this vision and write a tune in about 30 mins-an hour. The verses focused on highlighting my anxious feelings, and the chorus talked about how I now feel when I am with a community at church. LJ loved the approach I took with this tune, and was excited to help me build upon the rough chords I came up with.
We met during the evening and during this time, I sat down at the piano and played some of the chords he suggested. Once we were happy with a progression, I moved on to singing the melody. This was a work in progress melody, but we were happy enough to record a version of it for now that we could come back to later.
Once we finished this, we briefly went back to Grace Unveiled to write the second verse. I was surprised by how quickly this came to us, but was happy with the results! I found it helped having some scriptures as reference, and also a reference track as well.
