Today was my final mixing session with Fernando at Humber. For this mixing session, we mixed the remaining 4 tunes of Fernando’s EP entitled “Sky Music”. It was nice reaching a point after a hard semester at work when we felt the tunes were complete.
For this session, I took more of a supporting role and didn’t say much because our engineer, Ausma, did a great job mixing the tunes. Both Fernando and I took turns listening to the mixes on headphones to make sure we were happy with the panning and levels.
At 8:00pm, we had around an hour left, and we decided to use this time playing around with sequencing ideas. As mentioned in a previous blog post, sequencing is the process of determining the track order of an EP / album. Fernando and I had previously discussed potential sequencing ideas, but we both wanted to listen on the Humber studio speakers to determine which sequence we liked the best. This was a helpful exercise because it solidified our choice when we previously weren’t sure which one to go with.
To finish our mixing session, we decided to listen to all the tunes in order to do one final check to see if we needed any more revisions. After listening, we both concluded we were very happy with the results!
I am looking forward to hearing the master recordings that Reuben will provide us!
