Recently, I have been working on some editing for my fourth year recording project at Humber. Today, I learned a new tip thanks to my good friend Brandon!
At the last mixing session I had for school, the engineer suggested that I spend some time fixing the timing of the guitars and piano in one of my tracks. At first I thought I would have to manually do this, until I learned from Brandon that there is actually a way to quantize audio in Pro Tools!
I wasn’t sure if this was going to work at first, but then I tried it, and it did! I am grateful I didn’t have to spend the time manually editing these!
The process for doing this is as follows:
⁃ Event tab
⁃ Beat detective
⁃ Clip separation, capture selection, analyse, separate
⁃ Event tab
⁃ Quantize, audio clips, apply
I also spent some time editing the tuning of the vocals. To do this, I used a tool called Melodyne. In melodyne, you can analyze the audio file and see where the pitch sits. If it is off, you can drag the note and put it to the correct pitch. This can be a handy tool if you are not the best singer!
