Today was an exciting day because it was the last day of the month of February, but also a Leap Year!
I started the day by reflecting on what I did on the last Leap Year, and remembered I went to go watch Rob’s singer spotlight event at Piper Arms in Burlington. At that event, we were both envisioning the things we were going to accomplish before the next leap year!
I decided it would be a fun opportunity to go to Rob’s house to do an interview with him. I wanted this interview to eventually be the launch of my new podcast, so I decided to ask Rob about his favourite song he had been listening to recently. He selected “No Such Thing As A Broken Heart, by Old Dominion. I figured it would be a fun opportunity to listen to the song together and break down why Rob loves the song so much.
Rob mentioned the song has a powerful drum groove that stays consistent throughout. He also mentioned the lyrics paint a clear picture of reconciliation in his mind, which I was intrigued by.
I loved listening to what Rob had to say because it opened up an interesting conversation between us, and allowed me to better understand the emotions he was feeling.
If you can understand your emotions as a songwriter or artist, this is important because you will be able to engage your audience this way. You will be more vulnerable and audience members will relate to the challenges or positive experiences you are going through!
After we finished recording this podcast interview, Rob wanted to show me some of his unreleased originals. I gave them a listen and was loving the country vibe! I decided to jam on Rob’s kit, which he appreciated and I had a lot of fun doing it!
