Mountain Springs Anniversary Sunday Prep / Redemption Road check-in – February 28, 2024

Today wasn’t as big of a production heavy day, but at least I was able to still accomplish a few tasks! Little steps moving forward is all that matters sometimes.

On my way back from an event, I had a call with LJ to discuss our progress on how our album was coming along. We discussed two important considerations which I learned about at Humber last year. These include pacing and sequencing.

Pacing means how you transition from one song to the next on an album. It is important to consider whether or not you want a song to have a bit of silence before the next one starts, or if you want to go straight in to have more of an impact. This all depends on the groove, tempo, and overall feel of the previous song and next song.

Sequencing involves the order in which tracks are placed on an album. LJ had suggested a few ideas to me for sequencing, which I agreed with. Sequencing is usually done at the mastering stage when you are able to line all your tracks up in your DAW, however, we thought it would be a cool idea to discuss since we were halfway through the writing process for the album.

After I talked with LJ, I decided to do some prep work for Mountain Springs church Anniversary Sunday which is happening this Sunday! We are playing 4 songs: “Praise”, “Jehovah”, “Goodness of God”, and “Made a Way”

Our main worship leader, Claire, sent out the sheet music yesterday, so now it was time for me to listen to the songs. When I listen to the song, my goal is to first identify the form, and the specific number of bars each section is. This helps us have a groundwork for me to music direct during our rehearsal on Sunday morning.

I sent these sheets to the band for their reference, and then I went in and wrote in the core kick and snare patterns for each section so I had a rough idea of what to play!

I am looking forward to a wonderful time of music this coming Sunday!
