Today was a special day for Mountain Springs! It was the day we premiered our new original “Everything I Need”, as well as some additional original songs.
This was a cool experience because it reminded me of being in a worship experience like Elevation Worship on a smaller scale. I had the opportunity to produce a loose demo for “Everything I Need”, so it was very cool to hear it live with real instruments!
For the past few months, i have had the opportunity to be the music director at the church. This is a great opportunity to practice my skills a a producer because as a MD, i am responsible for shaping the arrangement and guiding the band members through the form of the track.
There was one slip up I did while MD’ing today, however, despite this, everyone said I still did a great job, and I am continuing to grow!
Later on in the day, I was finishing up an assignment for school, and got inspired to make a video about my overall experience from producer in residence last week. I also started a new Instagram page to feature my music production skills.
For Humber’s producer in residence week, Hill Kourkotis was the producer, and she taught me a lot of music production techniques to explore in my own productions
Here are some of the techniques she discussed:
– Mindfulness and overcoming “imposter syndrome”
– Vocal layering
– Percussion layering
– Equity in the music industry
I will post a more detailed reflection of the events in the next week. Thank you again Hill for coming to Humber!
